Website — Main Site Direction

Category: website Confidence: medium Last Updated: 2026-08-01

This article covers content and messaging direction for tracetechnical.co.uk — not layout, design, or page structure. The mockups in brand-wiki/website/mockups/ are not design inspiration and should not inform actual site layout, navigation, or page structure in any way. They exist purely as visual-identity tone reference (see Visual Identity) — nothing about their homepage structure, service-page template, navigation labels, or layout should be treated as direction for the real site.

Site Purpose

tracetechnical.co.uk is the owned content hub referenced in Content Strategy — currently pre-launch, no content published as of the last content-strategy update. The site's job is to get a visitor (founder, product lead, technical/quality/compliance manager — see Primary Icp) to self-identify which of the six services fits their situation and move toward the relevant next step.

Hero and Core Messaging

Core tagline, documented in Positioning and Core Messages: "You build protection. We clear the route." Both this short form and an extended form ("...to market") are consistent with the brand and can be used depending on context — the shorter version for social/lockups, the longer one where more explanation is useful.

Clarity Rule — Don't Overwhelm

Per Which Service Do I Need and Primary Icp, many visitors will be new to PPE entirely — first-time founders who have never been through testing or certification before, not just experienced technical buyers. The site must stay clear and unintimidating for that visitor, not just efficient for an expert one:

  • Don't over-rely on icons. An icon is a supporting label, not the explanation — keep icon use minimal, and never let one stand in for a sentence a first-time visitor needs to actually read.
  • Keep language plain and jargon-free on first contact (see the "nothing should assume prior knowledge of testing, certification, or 'the route'" rule in the offer-playbooks services-overview pack, Offer Playbooks).
  • Prefer fewer, clearer choices over dense navigation or a crowded service list.
  • The Which Service Do I Need situational-question structure ("where is the product or range stuck right now?") is a better model for routing visitors than a raw six-service list, precisely because it doesn't require the visitor to already understand Trace's service architecture.

Tone and Copy Rules for the Site

Follows Voice Guide throughout: direct, precise, honest about boundaries, no hype, no guaranteed-outcome language, "TBC" convention for anything unconfirmed. Per the services-overview prompt pack (see Offer Playbooks), no pricing should appear anywhere on public-facing service pages — no figures, no "fixed fee," no "pricing on request." Pricing is a private/sales conversation, not a website element, until decided otherwise.

Open Questions

  • Whether individual service pages surface pricing at all (current prompt-pack rule says no) or move to a "get a quote" pattern
  • Content strategy currently has no published content — website copy and the Content Strategy LinkedIn content plan should launch in coordination, not independently
  • Actual site structure, navigation, and page layout are undecided and out of scope for this article
